Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy (MMLA), chartered by CMU and managed by CS Partners, is a K-8 Title I public school academy serving a dynamic and diverse student body in Lansing, Michigan. MMLA’s goal is to provide an environment where all students can achieve success to reach their fullest potential. MMLA affords families in the greater Lansing area a tuition-free alternative education option to their local district.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide students with targeted reading interventions and implement small-group instruction sessions targeting specific reading skills and strategies.
Develop and implement personalized intervention plans to address specific needs and improve reading abilities.
Use approved research-based intervention curricula and instructional materials to engage students with foundational literacy skills and promote reading comprehension and fluency.
Use assessment tools to monitor students' reading growth and achievement. Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and make adjustments as necessary.
Utilize the academy’s classroom management and PBIS practices to create a learning environment that is conducive to learning, curtails disruptive behaviors and enhances students’ self-esteem.
Actively engage in professional development and PLCs by sharing insights, collaborating on data-driven strategies, and applying learned practices to improve student behavior and academic outcomes.
Stay up-to-date with current research and best practices in reading instruction, particularly the Science of Reading, and apply evidence-based strategies and methodologies to ensure effective intervention and support for struggling readers.
Maintain open and regular communication with classroom teachers to align intervention strategies with classroom instruction.
PARENT & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Make and maintain regular, positive contact with parents via phone calls and email including communicating student progress.
Establish and maintain effective written and oral communication and rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
Collaborate with parents to develop and implement individualized plans for students, and regularly provide progress updates to ensure a coordinated effort to support students' reading progress.
Contribute to the development of a positive attitude between the school and the wider community through cooperative relations, publications, competitions, etc.
OTHER DUTIES
Display physical, social, mental, and emotional soundness to execute the duties of the job.
Serve as a role model for all students and within the school community.
Interact with co-workers, administration, students, parents, and the community in positive, supportive, and cooperative ways.
Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
Contribute to extra-curricular activities and school programs, including recess duty as requested.
Maintain and promote the academy’s goals and objectives.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance to ensure consistent support for students, staff, and school operations.
Maintain a professional appearance; demonstrate effective and timely communication; and maintain accurate, organized, and confidential records
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required, Masters Degree in Reading Specialist (BR) or Reading (BT) preferred
Must have Michigan teacher certification or planning to become certified according to the Michigan Alternative certification path.
